Apple time of year again

Mum’s apple tree, despite being heavily cut back, has produced lots of apples again this year so we received a box and this weekend was my first chance to do something with them.

I spent my Sunday morning happily engaged in making an apple and almond cake (to be accompanied by ice-cream or cream) to follow the shepherd’s pie made for dinner, I stewed some for use in a pie or crumble another day, and I made some spiced apple chutney:

A very satisfying start – there are still a load of apples left for next time too 🙂
